Ps Sam is a pastor of a Pacific Island church. He has a strong teaching gift and a strong prophetic edge to his teaching, combined with his sense of humour and having the unique ability to understand relevant issues makes him a sought after speaker and facilitator. He moves strongly in the gifts of wisdom and word of knowledge. His leadership gifts has also seen Ps Sam on very diverse and different Trusts in a Trustee capacity in the last 10 years which has given him governance experience. Pastor Sam has been involved with church almost all of his life, from his early days in a Pacific Island Presbyterian Church to his parent’s church planting a Congregational Church of Samoa in Wanganui. He met his future wife Frances in Wellington after living a year in Samoa, it was through child hood friends that led him to a bible study for young men that recaptured his heart for God and begin a journey of ministry till this day almost 20 years later. For 7 years Sam was involved at different levels with a young men’s ministry called Know Names and led the ministry for 4 years. They were well known around the country for their outreaches through song, dance and theatre. During this time as well he was attending Wellington City Elim Church and held different leadership roles from discipleship, preaching and teaching which saw the church grow rapidly in those early years. Sam received a Rotary Award in 1997 for Service to the Wellington Community which signalled also a change in direction for his young family to Auckland. He attended Bible College for a year and then in 1999 was asked to come on staff fulltime as an Associated Pastor at Auckland City Elim Church and during his 4 years there held numerous roles from community to outreach. His passion for community development and equipping people has seen Ps Sam continue his work in the community and God has been able to use him extensively to build bridges connecting church and the secular. He has a passion for young people which led him to help establish with other likeminded “westies” a PTE in West Auckland helping young people with their educational and career aspirations. His main role was as a Manager helping to develop one of the largest mentoring program in NZ and was instrumental in been able to introduce the programs into 7 Colleges in Auckland which still continues today in New Lynn. Ps Sam also pioneered a church plant in Avondale called the Fathers House with a strong emphasis of relational evangelism and community responsibility to effect change and see the Kingdom of God transform communities for the good for all people. Currently he works fulltime serving the community as well while pastoring a church through his role as a Service Coordinator for Victim Support based in Counties Manukau in the Otahuhu Police Station which covers the areas of Mangere, Papatoetoe, Middlemore Hospital, Auckland Airport and Otahuhu. His wife Frances is a NZ born Cook Islander from and is currently studying at University to be a Mid Wife and their older daughter Seidah is studying at Auckland University majoring in Performing Arts. They have 3 son’s Malachi, Elisha and Ezra whom play rugby locally in West Auckland and attend their local schools respectively. |
